Racism issue beyond Shilpa Shetty.........

Shilpa Shetty's racism claim has created a furore around the globe. We saw world leaders condemning the actions of the participants in that reality show. Celebrities came fowrward in support of Shilpa and against racism........Tony Blair, Keith Vaz, Grodon Brown, P.Chidambaram and scores of people from film fraternity also condemned this incident.

The issue from a small reality show incident moved to the next levels and became a media debate all over the world. Today a noted writer (Man Booker price winner) Kiran Desai publicly spoke about racism and said is a matter of serious concern in the western world and she herself has been a victim of racism.

Shilpa now has taken a U-Turn and claims she was not racially abused. This is really foolish on Shilpa's part. Lakhs of people are watching and have seen her abused on the show and if she says what they saw is not racial abuse? then she is making fool of herself and all the others who came in support for her.

The whole issue of racism has gone beyond Shilpa's incident and have become a global debate. Atleast to keep the merit of this debate alive she shouldnt have taken this foolish U-Turn. She should let the discussions continue coz there is millions of Indians and other non-white people all over the world who go thru racial abuse would benefit thru such a debate.

Friends please voice your views here and keep this debate alive which will help or heel the wounds of millions of Indians and non-white ppl who have gone thru or going thru racial abuse.

First thng first..... shilpa shetty went into the show with her eyes open knowing what she has in store for her.and as we all know she went in for big money which ....ofcourse not a rong intention jus exhibiting her professionalism .then comes contradictions in her statements and attitude ,if she was concerned about her and her country's self respect she shud hav quit from the show but she still stayed back which jus further stresses the point tat money matters more for her than her self repect and her country's and to top it all she has now taken back her words wich jus makes it more clear that we r jus wastng out time for her..SO i conclude indian parlimentarians and ofcourse there UK counterparts ,and other people are jus being fooled by al this drama ,the only beneficials being shilpa and big brother producers......

now the second part about this discussion... doing gud 2 racism topic .........wel my first reaction ...gud joke ....wel v r in a country were foreigners are burnt alive, raped ....wel dont wanna say more because i luv my country .wel its not jus india any country for that matter any human for that matter cant be an example wen it cums to practising untouchability ,evry1 does it in there own possible way ...ofourse exceptions are there but we all know exceptions are not examples ,i guess more awareness and more education is required to hit the nail then more such incidents to stop people frm practising racisim. So we dont really need lessons at the cost of country's image being tarnished in media because at the end of the day reality is lessons are forgotten jus the incidents remain in the history.......

Abuse as such of any form is hard to take immaterial whether it is a common man or a celebrity. But before commenting on what Maran has started I would like to go back on The Race Relations Act passed in 1976 (U.K) to protect people against discrimination or abuse on the grounds of race, colour, nationality or ethnic background. It doesn't outlaw racial prejudice as such - only education and contact will achieve that.

At that instance the very fact Jan 2.Monday night's show, for instance, featured scenes of participants picking on Shilpa for her cooking skills. Jo O'Meara made fun of Shilpa's Indian accent and complained that she had touched food with her hands. He was joined by model Danielle Lloyd. She said: 'they eat with their hands in India, don't they - or is that China? You don't know where their hands have been.' Is this racial abuse? Is it misunderstood or misinterpreted. I’m sure that Shilpa ought to know to have gone to a place alien to her it is but common for such comment s to be leveled against her.

To handle such issues it requires a mature mind than to be overreacting and making it a national agenda and wasting precious time of the parliamentarians. One thing for sure she know how to market herself because from being a household name in India she is becoming a household name in the United Kingdom too. I have no offence against shilpa though larger issue in this is; it is a fortune for which Shilpa had gone for. She is not representing India for social cause but for a personal cause.

In a land in which we had Mahatma fight against racism, I feel it could be better to fight for a cause, which would be aimed at the larger public than to defend individual for their personal agenda. The view subscribed here are purely personal not aimed at offending or hurting anyone. Maran good going buddy keep the thread rolling.

Reality shows have a typical format such as this and they are like the way they are. However, we are still not very accurate about the so called "racial slurs" by one of the housemates of Bigbrother. This is like "he said, she said" kind of scenario - thanks to hyper-sensationalism by the media. It is unfathomable to think that Shilpa - having paid INR 30 million - was so naive to expect that she will have a jolly ride for the stay in the house full of strangers. It is expected. She married to carry. Now it is for her to carry. Poor Indian media, politicians, people - had to bite the dust, after her flip-flop. Success is to Bigbrother, Shilpa and the ChannelFour- whose TRP rating has gone north exponentially.

(Having said that I totally condemn racial discrimination of any form both overt and subtle, I strongly felt this is all about money honey.)

Reality Sucks !!!

No more comments about shilpa from my end. I guess she wants to play safe & doesn't want to take up the issue which others are facing. She is clear what she wants to do -- Make $$$ when media shines !!!

However, I have a different topic here on same lines but focussed on Indians :

Caste discrimination in India is often considered to be a form of racism. Based on the Mandal commission report submitted in 1980, the Indian government decided to reserve 27% more seats for students from Other Backward Classes in all educational institutions (government and private), and bring the total Reservation percentage up to 50%.

Certain Indian states, such as Tamil Nadu, reserve around 69% of the total seats in educational institutions and government jobs to students belonging to certain castes. In recent years, so-called upper castes were able to secure only 2.3 percent of total seats in professional education.A person born in a Backward Caste is eligible for reservation irrespective of their economic or social status. Many politicians, film stars, and rich industrialists also reap reservation benefits.Accusations have been made that the Indian parliament, has amended the constitution whenever a court judgement was not in favour of reservation decisions.

Damn Confusing now: Whether to go abroad or stay here :)

The grass is always greener on the other side !!!! Any takers on this ???
